Butler College

Stage 1 & 2

The project comprised of the development of a new Secondary School in Butler, Western Australia. The design and construction of the school was carried out over separate stages between the school buildings comprised of General Teaching Areas, Materials & Technology, Science and Food Technology Teaching Areas, Library, Pool, Performing Arts, Physical Education and Cafeteria.

The mechanical services features a mix of evaporative cooling and reverse cycle air conditioning (VRF and split systems), pool hall air conditioning, specialist dust extraction systems, fume cupboards, kitchen exhausts, refrigeration systems as well as specialist gases. The school utilise a building management system to control and monitor mechanical services throughout the site.

B105 Library Refurbishment

The Curtin University Library building was originally constructed in two phases between the 1970's and 1990's and is a focal point at the centre of the university campus.

Steens Gray & Kelly, having undertaken a review of the library's mechanical services infrastructure in 2014 were engaged by the university to design the end of life plant replacement and refurbishment to suit the future needs of the library.

The project features mechanical services "on show", with exposed services typically throughout. Sustainable design features include CO2 based outside air control and high efficiency energy recovery via thermal wheel heat reclaim systems.

Reid Library Ground Floor Refurbishment

This project comprised the refurbishment of the ground floor of the Reid Library at the University of Western Australia, including a new café. The Reid Library is a 50-year old building, which posed a number of challenges throughout the design and construction.

The mechanical services design featured chilled water based VAV air handling systems to serve an occupancy of 700 people (increased from 350 previously), with economy cycle and demand based ventilation using CO2 control implemented to reduce overall energy consumption.
